simple sentence = emphasis (?)

“Use simple sentences to emphasize your ideas. Use compound and complex sentences to identify or clarify relationships among your ideas.” — from A Writer’s Repertoire by Gwendolyn Gong and Sam Dragga, p. 185.

Ooh, that’s simple and helpful. It’s like the “TRIAC” method of paragraphing. But different. ;)

But does simple always or almost always provide emphasis?
